Now using Vimeo for videos

by Olaf Rabbachin 10. February 2010 17:30

Just a quick heads-up - until now, I was using animated GIFs whenever I wanted to better illustrate certain things resp. to i.e. show a UI-portion in action. However, this made the inital loading of blog entries a bit lengthy (I, for one, have to get along with 768kBit/s downstream ...), so I looked around for a video-streaming approach.

Looking around, I found Al Bsharah's Vimeo extension for BlogEngine.net (which is the engine behind this blog) which I installed today. So, instead of providing animated GIFs for the articles, I'll now provide videos that I uploaded to Vimeo.com. I've also replaced the existing GIFs accordingly.

Oops?

Welcome

Welcome to, um, my blog. I know what you're thinking - why the heck yet another blog? What could Olaf possibly publish that can't already be found elsewhere? I've been asking myself that exact question for a couple of years now and was always thinking "the world can do fine without one from me".

Actually I'm certain that this still applies. The reason for creating the blog is actually that I have been struggling with finding that single place in which I could store the things that I come over, nicely formatted, searchable, with a quick way of downloading what I need - stuff like that.

I never even cared much about RSS-feeds - except maybe the one for keeping track of who browsed my Xing-profile. The whole blog thing really started during the summer when I started to get into WPF which was the time when I was constantly looking for information and found it ... in various blogs (well, most of the time). A few of those I found interesting enough that I went ahead and actually subscribed to them (see the blog-roll) and the more blogs I saw, the more I thought that a blog-engine could actually provide me with just what I have been after for quite some time now. That said, I haven't been doing much posting in the forums/newsgroups "lately" (well, over the last 4 years), but ever since I got addicted to WPF, I re-discovered the MSDN-forums where I did a lot of posting over the last couple of months. This blog might be a better place to share (somewhat generic) stuff than in a forum (and link to the blog-post from forum-posts). I'll yet have to see how this evolves myself ...

For a start, I have already taken the stuff from my original Access-website (it's still there) and turned each of the samples there into a blog-post which is why you'll see older entries here than this one.

So, thanks for reading so far (you too must be a nerd after all, if you've come this far Wink) - I hope you find just something useful here. And, of course, you can drop me a line anytime.
